In recent years, Chinese science fiction novels have developed rapidly. Recently, famous Chinese science fiction writer Liu Cixin was invited to Dubai by the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature to discuss the magic of science fiction.

The discussion session was held on March 8th in Dubai. Science fiction writer Liu Cixin talked about the contents of his fiction “The three-body problem” and how to create a science fiction novel. Liu also answered some of the science fiction questions posed by readers. People are excited by the development of Chinese science fiction.

Bjorn Candel, Sweden reader: There are a lot fictions coming from the West. So (Chinese science fictions) gave another view point.

In the year 2015, Liu Cixin won the Hugo Award by his fiction “the three-body problem”, making him the first Asian to win the award. This time is the first time that Liu visited Dubai. He said his the first impression Dubai gave him is that it is a future city. When he knew that the UAE had ambitious to explore the universe, he said that the Arab countries have a close relationship with technology in history, and he wish the UAE to advance in space technology.

Liu Cixin, Chinese science fiction writer: In the past the Arab world was advanced in science and technology. Then they lost the opportunity of development. But now, it re-focuses on space. I think it makes sense. Because it is an ancient civilization with a very important place in the evolution of human technology. I wish to see the progress of the Arab world in technology on the basis of deep cultural heritage.

Taking this opportunity for the Literature Festival, Liu Cixin promotes people in the UAE with the movie “The Wandering Earth” which was adapted according to his novel of the same name, looking for a chance to cooperate with the UAE. Although the values of science fiction vary among different countries, in Liu’s view, this type of difference should not be tightened.

Liu Cixin, Chinese science fiction writer: Human beings exist in science fiction as a whole. Where everyone faces the same crisis. Everyone is heading in one direction. I think science fiction should emphasize this point, no matter novels or movies. This is what we say in common human society.
